People, Perceptions and Place - the Sandwell Position
Posted by: Christine Wright on 18/01/2010 13:43:41

Ipsos MORI have recently published the report People, Perceptions and Place. This report helps local public services and partnerships better understand what factors affect key outcomes such as satisfaction with quality of life, community cohesion, feelings of influence and ratings of local services.

The findings combine an analysis of the recent release of national Place Survey data by CLG, plus MORI's own analysis of the Place Survey.

Research Sandwell's briefing aims to sumarise the main points from the MORI report, and presents some further analysis of Sandwell's position on the Area Challenge Index that MORI discuss.

The Place Survey - summary briefing
Posted by: Christine Wright on 02/12/2009 12:37:36

Research Sandwell has published a briefing note which summarises the key results from the 2008/9 Place Survey. The findings from the Place Survey are important because they help the Council and its local partners on the local strategic partnership (LSP) [including the police, fire and health services, and the voluntary and community sector] understand how they are performing in relation to each of the new citizen perspective indicators prioritised by the government, and how residents' views have changed over time in relation to key local public service and quality of life issues.

The full report from Ipsos MORI is also available.

The Place Survey - Local Intelligence
Posted by: Alex Hawley on 20/10/2009 12:48:47

Research Sandwell has published a series of interactive maps to help you explore the results of the 2008 Place Survey in greater detail.

Four reports are available, two at England level, and two at Sandwell level.

At the England level, you can choose a 'performance profile' report, that will compare Sandwell with other local authority districts with all the indicators visible at a glance, via a spine chart, in addition to the analysis of a single indicator through a thematic map of England; or you can choose a 'double map' report, which allows a visual geographical comparison of two chosen indicators, and also puts those indicators into an XY chart, showing the strength of any correlation.

These two types of report are also available at the Sandwell level, allowing comparison between local neighbourhood divisions of the borough, Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs). As well as the greater local detail that this presents for the first time, it also includes every question presented in the survey, providing detail that goes much beyond just the National Indicators that are measured by the Place Survey. The double map report also includes a measure of deprivation for each MSOA, enabling this to be compared and correlated with survey responses at MSOA-level.

Is there something I should know?
Posted by: Andrew Turvey on 27/08/2009 13:05:32
This month, the Audit Commission released a paper, entitled Is there something I should know, focused on helping local areas to use intelligence effectively to deliver outcomes. The report is based on detailed case studies across 15 local authorities and discusses the pitfalls and solutions commonly experienced in intelligence working. They have split the major issues (and suggested solutions) into three categories: People, Culture and Standards.

Our summary document aims to:
  • convey the Audit Commission's message to readers what needs to be done at senior levels across these three categories to ensure information is used to deliver change;
  • inform readers what is currently being done in Sandwell to address these needs;
  • challenge readers to develop new ways of working which make better use of the intelligence resources available to Sandwell's services.
